Braces Vs. Invisalign – Which One is Right For You

professional dental services

If you are a looking for a solution to your teeth alignment issues, then you have two options available to you – the traditional orthodontic treatment of metal braces, or Invisalign.

While you may be familiar with braces, which are metal devices used to align your teeth, Invisalign are what we call clear braces.

Compared to metal braces, Invisalign is practically invisible, a clear indicator of how far dental technology has come. Not sure which treatment is right for you? We can help you decide!

Braces

If you go the route of the traditional braces treatment, then that involve getting metal brackets glued to your teeth and connected by wires and bands. Braces have come a long way, and continue to be the most common method of treatment for misaligned teeth.

One of the main benefits of braces is that they can solve pretty much any orthodontic issue. They are considered to be the most effective, with long-lasting improvements. They are not entirely cheap, but still a cost-effective solution to your dental issues.

Naturally, there are a few drawbacks to consider. Braces have a significant impact on your diet. There are certain hard and sticky foods, like chewing gum, that you will not be able to eat. Brushing and maintaining general oral hygiene tends to become a chore as well, as you need to take the time out to navigate around the wires and brackets. The constant presence of the metal appliances can also lead to inflammation, irritation, and minor injuries at times.

Invisalign

Invisalign, as the name suggest, is an invisible alternative to metal braces. They are made of a comfortable, clear plastic that is worn over your teeth in order to bring them into alignment.

They tend to be more comfortable than braces, as the chance of irritation due to the metal appliances is eliminated.

As they are completely clear, they are hardly noticeable – they are shaped like your teeth, so they fit seamlessly.

Due to the fact that they can be removed, you can brush your teeth with ease and eat whatever your heart desires!

However, the fact that they are removable means that it’s also a lot easier to lose them. You need to keep them in for up to 22 hours per day to ensure maximum effectiveness, and clean them on the regular. Invisalign is great for treating, crowding and overbites, but there are a lot of orthodontic issues that braces are better suited to treating.
