1) Brush PROPERLY
PROPERLY being the key word here. Hopefully you brush at least twice a day but you need to be doing it thoroughly.
Hold your toothbrush at a 45° angle against your teeth AND gums. Move the brush up and down with moderate pressure. Repeat the same for the inside of your teeth. Rinse properly – preferably with a mouthwash.
2) Brush your mouth
Other than your teeth, your mouth has a tongue which gets slathered with all types of food and drinks. Your tongue along with the ceiling of your mouth needs to be scrubbed too to clean off layers of bacteria that cause bad breath.
3) Don’t forget to floss
Flossing requires a little more time than brushing. Brushing on its own cannot access the crevasses of your teeth which where flossing comes in. Make sure you floss your teeth thoroughly before you go to bed.
4) Eat foods that are good for your teeth
There are certain foods that are actually good for teeth. As you chew on crunchy, juicy fruits like apples and pears, you activate a cleansing mechanism in your mouth that cleans plague from your teeth.
Other foods that stimulate the salivary glands and increase saliva, work the same way.
5) Stay away from food/beverages that are bad for your teeth
Don’t expect to have pearly whites when you’re gulping down black coffee all day. Sticky foods such as gummy candies and certain cheeses attract bacteria and lead to a buildup of plague. If you’re going to eat them, try rinsing your mouth immediately.
